Brown, Sprint, known then as Brown Telephone Company, underwent a rapid growth with its ingenious technological advances which made it an industry great by 1976. But it was in 1989 that Sprint International emerged as a global name with its series of high-profile technological advances, such as the nation’s first coast-to-coast fiber-optic transmission and the first transatlantic fiber-optic phone call.

By 1993, Sprint provided service to more than 6.1 million customer lines in 19 states. The year 1995 saw Sprint with its partners acquire PCS wireless licenses in 29 major trading areas in the FCC’s first auction. The result was Sprint PCS and one of its latest products, the Sprint PCS cell phones.

The Sprint PCS Fair & Flexible Plan

Sprint has put together a variety of service options for their subscribers to help ensure that you always get the right solution at the best possible value. The Sprint PCS Fair & Flexible Plan protects you against ugly overcharges. The plan works by adding low-cost minutes when you need them.

The Sprint PCS cell phone plan provides options that are specific for individuals and family users. Unlike other plans where if you go over your allotted time, you have to pay overcharges, with the Sprint PCS cell phone plan, you get to have additional minutes for much lower costs. This is so because your calling plans won’t do you much good if the phone won’t work where you need it to work. However, the thing with coverage is that it is very subjective. The best solution therefore available for you is to ask friends or colleagues who use the carrier in areas where you are likely to use your cell phone.

The next important thing may be something to debate over. Which is more important – the phone or the calling plan? Often, it is best to choose your calling plan first, then the phone. If you’re wondering why, just think how choosing the wrong calling plan could cost you extra money each month. Then think about the phone and how it is merely a one-time decision. Also, from a more practical viewpoint, most carriers these days, in an effort to entice more costumers offer a full range of free phones for each service or calling plan. Thus, with your calling plan, you can have your pick from the most inexpensive phone to the one with the fullest features. So unless you have your heart set on a specific, hot new phone, go for the plan first.

And this thus brings us to selecting your service or calling plan. There are many things to consider of course but they all boil down to “How and where will you use your phone each month?” When you have the answer to that question, then the decision process over your calling plan would be made a lot easier. If anything, the answer to that question will help you determine if you should pick a local, regional, or national coverage area. It would also tell you whether you should opt for special features such as an off-peak package, first incoming minute free, and/or free long distance.

Calling Plan Guidelines

The easiest way for you to find all the answers to the situations posed above would be to visit an unbiased website that will help you figure out all this. The estimates will be based on your estimated calling patterns and comparing them against the calling plans then for sale in the market. One example of these websites is MyRatePlan.com.

However, if you do not wish to estimate your usage through a third party or simply want to use some general guidelines, just keep these three in mind: calling area, off-peak packages, and contract.

Camera Cell Phones

To be sure, cell phones are really the hottest new mobile gadgets in the marketplace these days. Never mind what sort of cell phone you have, whether it’s WAP-enabled, Bluetooth, or Infrared-based. Most of the cell phones in the market anyway have all these capabilities and more. Take a little experiment for one.

Try standing on a crowded street corner where people are most likely to gather, waiting for the stop light to change. Persuade someone, some friend you have to call you on your mobile right about there. And you’ll notice that at least about a dozen or so people in the crowd would reach for their pockets or purse to see if their phone was ringing. Had enough proof?

There is no doubt that cell phones have caught on like wildfire in the bushes. However, the popularity of mobile phones is hardly surprising. After all, they do offer constant communications from just about anywhere. But what does amaze some people is the popularity of camera cell phones.

Today’s cell phones can be used to do just about anything. So with just a touch of a button, you can instantly send and receive e-mail, play games, send text messages, surf the Internet, and keep track of appointments. And the best thing about all this is that you can do it even while on the go. But is this why cell phones are practically selling like hotcakes? Marketing analysts will agree. However, they would also say that it is the ability to double as a digital camera that has people excitedly purchasing new phones.

Camera cell phones were first introduced in Japan several years ago. Camera cell phones immediately clicked in the Asian cell phone market. However, it was not until two years ago that camera cell phones were marketed in the US and became available to the masses. At first, they weren’t that popular. But as soon as people began to see the extreme convenience afforded by camera cell phones, the devices became so well liked that some have predicted that they will be the most popular consumer device in history.

Industry analysts say that a huge number of camera cell phones were sold last year. In fact, these camera cell phones comprised 12% of the total cell phones in 2003 and they were steadfast in the belief that that number is growing rapidly. According to research firm IDC, more than 80 million camera cell phones have been sold worldwide.

It may seem to you that a camera cell phone would be no different than having a cell phone and a camera. But if truth be told having a camera in your mobile phone makes for an entirely different experience. It means that you can have cameras with you constantly, that the camera will be always ready to shoot a quick photo, and that the images can be quickly and easily transferred to others.

Family Calling Plans

There are several factors to consider when choosing the appropriate family calling plans for you and your family to use. Coverage, you’ll agree, is the most important for what use is having a cheap family calling plan if you can’t get your phone to work in area where you would most likely need it? Therefore, coverage provided by the carrier should be the first thing to keep in mind.

The second most important thing to think of is the family calling plan or service. In an effort to keep up with the demands of consumers and the competition in the market, carriers are offering all sorts of gimmick to get you to subscribe to the family calling plans they have to offer. That is why it does not come as a surprise that one carrier may be offering you free cell phones if you subscribe to their family calling plans or any other cell phone service they have. And if one carrier is offering free cell phone models, then another would be offering bundled extra features that are sure to make your cell phone capabilities the envy of everyone. In the end, it all comes down to what you hold more important.

Aside from those things mentioned above, there are also several other factors which you might want to take in consideration. These are:

* Promotions – Once more, competition in the cell phone and family calling plans market is stiff. In order to get a head start, many companies are offering promotions to entice customers to their products. Specials are constantly being run to get you to sign up. Generally, these specials are short-term in nature, and become less meaningful the longer you are a customer. Therefore, when you’re making your decision over what family calling plan you ought to buy, try to measure the true cost of your service after the promotion ends. This then places you in a better position to evaluate whether the promotion is appropriate for you.
* Equipment – Whichever carrier you select will offer you many choices and many prices for equipment. Thus, it is often a matter of personal taste. But keep in mind that smaller phones and those with more features will cost you more since they cost the carriers more. Also, carriers in general who require you to sign a contract for your family calling plan are more likely to offer you a lower price on the phone in exchange for your commitment as a customer.
* Ancillary Services – Ancillary services such as Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, are some of the extra features included in family calling plans. Some carriers may bundle these in, thus allowing you take advantage of these extra features without the extra cost. Therefore, if you value these services, then you may want to consider family calling plans that include them.

Cell Phone Plans

Shopping for just the right cell phone plan can be a daunting task. Don’t let appearances fool you. If a cell phone plan appears too good to be true, then it probably is. That is why it is highly important for you, as a consumer, to be very vigilant when shopping for cell phone plans. Compare prices. Read the fine print. But most important of all, consider all the factors.

The Three Factors

The three most important things you need to consider when shopping for cell phone plans is: carrier coverage, equipment, and cell phone plan, of course.

Carrier coverage is mentioned first because it is, for all intents and purposes, the most relevant of all three factors. Consider having the most high-tech cell phone available in the market and the best cell phone plan imaginable but then later find out that your carrier does not provide coverage in you area. The irony would simply be too much.

So first thing’s first then. Find out if the carrier covers your area and once you do, you can base all your later decisions on that one fact. The thing you need to remember about coverage is that it can be subjective. First, make a list of all the places that you are likely to use your cell phone – your home, office, your kid’s school, the playground, favorite vacation spots, et cetera. Do you a travel a lot? Are there any special places that you frequent? Find out if your carrier provides coverage for those areas as well.

After coverage, we have two things to tackle when shopping for a cell phone plan. Which do you think is more important – the phone or the service plan? More often that not, it is best to choose the cell phone plan first before choosing the phone. Anyway, most cell phone plans these days come with free cell phone models so you’re in a better position if you pick your cell phone plan first. Plus, a cell phone plan can cost you a lot of extra money each month whereas the equipment itself is a mere one-time decision. Therefore, it is simply no good to mince on the process of deciding which cell phone plan to take.

And now, we’re down to the final factor in cell phone plan shopping. The equipment. Now, as mentioned earlier in the article, most carriers offer a full range of free phones for each service or cell phone plan they have. Thus, with your selected cell phone plan, you can have your pick of cell phones from the most inexpensive to the one with the fullest features.

AT and T Cell Phones

AT&T has joined forces with Cingular Wireless in order to offer an even wider wireless mobile network in the county. With cell phones, we can talk to just about anyone from anywhere around the world. Cell phones help us stay connected with friends and family who are now living away from us. In essence, cell phones and other such technology help bridge the gap that occurs over long distances.

But as with all high-tech technology, cell phones don’t come cheap. Yes, they are important and to some, they might even be an absolute must. Still, cell phones cost money and money isn’t something that we can just pick up right off the streets. And with the speed with which cell phones are upgraded these days, it’s inevitable that we all have to buy cell phones not only once but several times if we want to keep up with the times. So how does one afford a cell phone?

Free Cell Phones: Cell Phone Service Plans

The good thing about cell phones is that they often come with service plans. A cellular phone service plan works the same way as a telephone service in that you pay a certain fee per month for use of your cell phone service. Companies who offer such services to the masses often use gimmicks to entice more people into using their products. One of these popular enticements includes free cell phones along with your service plan.

Service plan subscriptions often meant not only low monthly fees but free cell phones to boot. Along with free cell phones, extra features are also offered. So depending on the free cell phone model, your service plan may include email, Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Bluetooth wireless technology, et cetera. All these features make your free cell phone even more convenient to use.

Free Cell Phone Sites

Free cell phones are also offered on several online sites. More often than not, these free cell phones are offered only if you subscribe to some type of cell phone service provided by these sites. Websites such as LetsTalk.com or Calling-Plans.com offer free cell phones along with their subscription service plans.

LetsTalk.com is one of the top websites that offer free cell phones to their subscribers. They have the widest selection of cell phones and cell phone plans at the lowest possible prices. When it comes to deals, they have the best. Some of the free cell phones they offer may mean that you need to mail in a rebate form and after they receive it, you will get a check for the amount of money equivalent to the price you paid for the cell phone model. So in essence, you are not paying for that cell phone; you are getting it for free.

Wireless Phones

Are you thinking of cutting the cord on your home phone and going totally wireless? You are not alone. According to a survey made by the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA), about 7.5 million Americans now rely on their wireless phones as their only phone. Out of this 7.5 million, it seems that a higher percentage tend towards the younger generation. There are no hard numbers of demographics of course but apparently, younger people with more mobile lifestyles are leading the charge in wireless phone usage.

“But what about the rest of us?” you ask. Obviously, the decision to go completely wireless with your phone is an individual one. However, if you can answer yes to some or all of the questions posed below, then you might be a good candidate.

Do I have a mobile lifestyle?

The primary purpose of wireless phones is to combine convenience and portability in one neat package. Hence, wireless phones are standing symbols of the mobile lifestyle. If you frequently travel or are out and about a great deal, then you are probably in the perfect position to cut the cord. Who needs a wired phone when most people you known reach you on your wireless phone?

Is my household small?

The main issue here is cost. Big household naturally means more rooms where you would need to install a phone. Let’s say, you have a spouse and two children and currently have a phone in each of four rooms. You can do this with a single wired line. But with wireless phones, you would need four separate phone lines and that could be costly. Some wireless phone companies actually offer family plans to reduce the cost for multiple cell phones in the household, but still, if you have a big household, the cost is still considerably higher compared to a single landline number.

Am I (or my family) light to moderate users of Telecom?

Telecom usage is another cost issue. Most landlines are priced at a flat “all-you-can-talk” rate. With wireless phones, the bill is often competitive with most landline bills. However, as you talk more, the cost increases. This is because wireless phones are charged at a per-minute basis. So if you want to get a wireless phone, make sure that your Telecom usage won’t be that big.

Am I okay with the occasional dropped call or bad reception?

This question deals mostly with the issue of reliability. When you pick up a landline, there is about 100% chance that you’re going to get a dial tone. Unfortunately, with wireless phones, the percentage might be a little lower.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are hand-held telephone devices with built-in antennas. They are often called wireless, mobile, or PCS phones. Cell phones are popular with callers, especially those who are frequently on the go, since they can be carried easily from one place to another.

Basically, cell phones are two-way radios. When you talk into a wireless telephone, it picks up your voice and converts the sound to radio frequency energy or radio waves. The radio waves then travel through the air until they reach a receiver at a nearby base station. From here, it is the base station that sends your call through the telephone network until it reaches the person you are calling.

Health Concerns over Cell Phones

The most recent issue about cell phones is their perceived health hazards. As stated earlier, cell phones are radios. However, to be more accurate, cell phones are low-power, single-channel, two-way radio devices. When you talk on your cell phone, you are actually talking to a nearby base station. Cell phone base stations are low-power, multi-channel, two-way radios. Their function is to send your phone call into the regular land-line phone system so you can start talking with the person you are calling.

Now, since cell phones and their base stations are two-way radios, they produce radio-frequency (RF) energy which is what they use for communication. The people who are near them are of course exposed to the RF energy. However, because both the cell phones and the base stations are low power, meaning they only exhibit short range energies, the RF energy exposure levels from them are generally very low.

The scientific community both in the United States and internationally agree that the power from these cell phone base station antennas is far too low to produce health hazards and as long as people keep away from direct access to the antennas, they are safe from any perceived health risks.

Cell Phones – Buying and Savings Tips

Cell phones are the “in” things nowadays and it’s hard not to find anyone without it. However, despite cell phones being an absolute must, there’s no need for you to pay much for a gadget that you barely even use. So, if you don’t use cell phones very often, select a low usage service plan for your mobile. Many areas offer cell phones for as low as $19.99. This allows you the convenience of mobile phones but without making too much of a dent on your wallet.

Another excellent tactic to save on your cell phones is to only get features you need. Call your wireless provider to cancel extra features if you are not using them. This will allow you to save some on your cell phone service plan.
